Introduction
Project Goal
Unlock the potential of effective communication by focusing on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and developing a solution that addresses the communication challenges faced by individuals in dysfunctional teams. The aim was to enhance communication skills, improve relationships, and create a positive work environment.
Problem
Prevalence of communication issues and conflicts in team dynamics, leading to ineffective communication, toxic communication, and conflicts left unresolved. This had a negative impact on individuals' mental health and overall well-being, often resulting in job dissatisfaction and turnover.
Solution
Development of the Team Harmony app, which offered engaging role-playing games and AI-guided conflict resolution to enhance communication skills. The app utilized gamification elements, progress bars, and trackers to provide continuous training for long-term development. Additionally, the app incorporated resources, tips, and tools to support users in addressing conflicts and improving communication in their teams.
Empathize
In dysfunctional teams, communication was either inadequate, toxic, or avoided altogether to prevent discomfort. Resolving conflicts proved to be the biggest challenge, with 43.5% remaining unresolved. Fear of negative consequences hindered individuals from expressing their problems to supervisors or higher positions, impacting their mental health and leading some to leave the team or quit their job.
“In my case, there was a lack of trust, I felt uncomfortable. I would have stayed for the job, but the things that she said made me so angry I couldn’t stay.”
Interviewee
We conducted a thorough competitive analysis to understand the communication solutions landscape. Surprisingly, we found a shortage of comparable solutions in the market. Most of the identified competitors focused on either Nonviolent Communication (NVC) or team training, providing general communication skill improvement. However, none of them specifically addressed the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals in dysfunctional teams.
Emily enters her new job with enthusiasm and motivation, ready to make an impact. However, during a presentation, her team members’ reaction falls short of her expectations, leaving her disappointed. To make matters worse, she overhears gossip about herself, which leaves her feeling discouraged and embarrassed.
In search of a solution, Emily approaches her supervisor but receives little support, being told to handle the issue on her own. As a newcomer to the workforce, she feels lost and unsure about how to proceed, lacking experience in navigating such situations.

Testing
User feedback from usability tests played a crucial role in shaping our design. Users recommended visually distinguishing screens, breaking down text for improved readability, and limiting information length when describing personas. Overall, users embraced the app concept, finding it intuitive and providing encouraging feedback on our user experience design approach.
Colors — Typography — Style Tile
Our design phase aimed to embody the brand attributes of “Soothing, Relaxing, Trustworthy, Professional, and Toolkit” within the app. We found inspiration from elements like the sea, sand, watercolors, and hand-drawn illustrations to evoke calmness and playfulness.
